Residents of RW 06, Utan Kayu Selatan Urban Village, Matraman, East Jakarta have transformed their village to be more beautiful and healthier.

The key is to build residents awareness to live together in a village that is clean, healthy, and free from flood and COVID-19

Moreover, this village was awarded by East Jakarta Mayor as a COVID-19-free village on September 2020.

RW 06 Chairperson, Aris Widodo mentioned, it needed 3 years to transform the village into more beautiful, healthier, and free from flood and COVID-19.

"The key is to build residents awareness to live together in a village that is clean, healthy, and free from flood and COVID-19," he stated, Saturday (11/7).

Residents, he continued, gradually cleaned water channels in the region together.

"They also disassembled legal buildings on the channels independently," he added.

Then, residents planted various types of plants, such as vegetables, ornamental plants, including protective plants with hydroponic system using pot as a media. In the harvest period, some of the crops were consumed by residents and some were sold.

"Money that we earned from selling crops will be used for urban farming operation cost. For example, to buy fertilizers, seeds, and others," he explained.

Moreover, residents also built 8 eight ponds above the channels for fish breeding.

"We have goldfish, tilapia fish, catfish, Mozambique tilapia fish, and others," he said.

In making a healthy village, his side collaborated with various sides. Starting from East Jakarta Government and PT. Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (PDSI).

This collaboration included coaching from Matraman Sub-district, coaching and planting seeds which supported by East Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-agency, garbage bins assistance, healthy village management techniques and health car from PT. PDSI and collaboration with other related parties.

"Sometimes, people visit our village for comparative studies," he conveyed.

On the other hand, Matraman Sub-district Head, Andriansyah expected his side and residents can stay motivated and maintain solidarity to create a beautiful, clean, comfortable, healthy village that is free from COVID-19.

"He hopes this village can be role model for other villages in Jakarta, especially in Matraman," he closed.
