Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, had issued the Gubernatorial Regulation (Pergub) No. 141 in 2015 as a replacement of Gubernatorial Regulation No. 195 in 2014 to revise the rules of motorcycles ban passing on Jalan MH Thamrin to Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat.
Jakarta Transportation Agency Head, Benjamin Bukit explained that the revision of the rules had been signed by the Jakarta Governor on 18 March.
Bukit told, in the revision mentioned, the motorcycles ban on protocol road only applies from 6 AM to 11 PM.
"Motorcyclists are allowed to pass on Jalan MH Thamrin to Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat start at 11 PM until 5 AM," said Bukit, Sunday (4/5).
Moreover, Bukit continued, his side would only install the traffic signs related to the new rules.
"We won't hold socialization related the rules and only install the traffic signs along the road. Moreover, the roads condition along Jalan MH Thamrin to Medan Merdeka Barat after 11 PM had deserted," he told.
As information, the regulation of motorcycle ban passing on Jalan MH Thamrin to Medan Merdeka Barat had applied since last December 2014.
The regulation is aimed to minimize the number of motorcycle accidents. According to the plan, the Jakarta Provincial Government will extend the regulation to Jalan Sudirman (Ratu Plaza).
This regulation also as an initial step in implementing electronic road pricing in capital. As compensation, the government provides free buses for the citizens who are working in the offices along the roads.
